We are delighted to share these trays incorporating exquisite prints made from some rare originals. Created by George Edwards in the 18th century, our beautiful birds retain their original crisp detail and elegant color. Known as "The Father of British Ornithology", Edwards gained fame as the author of two important volumes filled with his etchings: A Natural History of Uncommon Birds (1743-1751) and Gleaning of Natural History (1758-1764). Edwards etched his own plates and then hand colored several copies before supervising others in the coloring. Our birds are from his second book, Gleaning, and they grace our custom made trays in a print replete with some of my hand-painted details.
This tray is part of our Circa line, inspired by artwork from our family collections. My mother especially had a love for engravings, and we are pleased to share the incredible craftsmanship of centuries past with all of you.
Our trays begin with a local woodworker who crafts each piece to our custom specifications. We hand paint each tray with multiple coats of color, glaze and satin finish to complement the artwork, which is protected in a durable laminating process. Ouida and I put untold hours into perfecting our trays, and we proudly sign and number each one in this limited edition of 250.
