Decoupage

The word decoupage comes from the French word “decouper” meaning “to cut”. Originating first in Siberia, the art of cutting paper shapes to decorate furniture and other items was found in China as early as the 12th century. It made its way into the royal courts of Europe in the 17th century, most likely through the the eastern trade routes and Venice.  We continue the tradition in our Atlanta studio in a painstaking process that begins with adhering our images to hand-blown glass plates and trays.  After finishing with multiple layers of paint and a gilded edge, each piece is signed.
