Still Life with Jar, Cup, and Apples by Paul Cézanne

Paul Cezanne, (French 1639-1906) made this painting in 1877 featuring some of his oft repeated elements: apples, the ceramic jar and cup, and even the wallpaper, which appears in at least six of his paintings from the era.  Cezanne is known as a Post Impressionist painter whose work laid the groundwork for the transition from pure 19th century Impressionism to a new and radical way of visualizing art in the 20th century. Cezanne's distinctive brushwork and his method of painting in small planes of color make his work highly recognizable.
