Portrait of Mäda Primavesi, ca. 1912-13, by Gustav Klimt (1862–1918 Vienna). Mäda's confident stance and frank expression belies her age of nine years. Klimt did numerous studies for this portrait, experimenting with different poses and backgrounds. Her parents, Otto Primavesi and his wife Eugenie, were admirers of progressive Viennese art and design, as typified in this superbly different kind of portrait.
