"Sad" is an Old English word for "solid" and the term "sad iron" is often used to distinguish the largest and heaviest of flat irons, usually 5 to 9 pounds. We've put together this wonderful collection of century-old irons to share our love of reinvention: the irons our grandparents used are much loved sentinels by the doors in our mountain cottages. All are very similar in size and shape, in great condition and ready for door duty! The irons in our collection vary from 6-8 lbs each. One iron measures 6" H by 4" W by 5" D.
